Caveat against arrest of ships in Nigeria
Adepetun, Caxton-Martins & Agbor, barristers and solicitors, Lagos
The practice of filing caveats against arrest of ships developed in Nigeria as a result of the undue disruption of maritime
commerce and the losses and expenses which usually attends the arrest of a vessel. Prior to August 1993, when the Admiralty
Jurisdiction Procedure Rules (AJPR)
1
were made, the practice of filing caveats was virtually unknown to Nigerian law.
