Foreign arbitration awards in China

This article gives some practical advice about the procedures for applying for recognition of foreign arbitration awards in China. Zoe Zhou, qualified lawyer in PRC and trainee solicitor at Ince & Co, draws attention to the latest cases published by the Supreme People’s Court of China and the important judicial explanations made by the Deputy President of the Supreme People’s Court.

A party seeking to have a foreign award recognised and enforced should apply to the Intermediate People’s Court of the place of domicile of the Chinese respondent, or of the place where the Chinese respondent has his assets.
