Hurricane Bonnie damage limited
NORTH CAROLINA - Damage caused by Hurricane Bonnie as it hit the Atlantic coast of the US was less severe than expected.
Catastrophe modelling experts have been surveying the aftermath of the hurricane, but initial suggestions point to
the total cost being less than expected. A spokeswoman for RMS Europe which has hurricane experts in North Carolina
said wind damage appeared to have limited to fallen trees, downed power cables and occasional roof damage. She added clear
up operations were being hampered by flooding but said the federal government was expected to pick up the tab for water
damage and US insurers would not be liable. Meanwhile a second hurricane - Danielle - currently in the western Atlantic,
is picking up speed, and monitors in Miami have warned people in the Bahamas and on the US East Coast should keep
an eye on it. The fear is Danielle could strike the same areas already hit by Bonnie.
