Challenges in achieving successful megaprojects
113.1 Introduction
Megaprojects are increasingly common around the world. For the purposes of this chapter a megaproject is a project with a capital cost in excess of USD1 b. Megaprojects are large-scale projects involving substantial capital expenditure and cash flow, and a correspondingly large design, procurement and construction workforce that must be appropriately managed. Further, the scale and number of interfaces in a megaproject necessarily imply a level of complexity greater than in smaller projects.
