12.1.1 General information

Uruguay is located between the Uruguay River, the River Plate and the Atlantic Ocean and has 500 km of coastline. Its neighbouring countries are Brazil to the north and northeast and Argentina to the west across the Uruguay River and the River Plate. Its total area is 177,000 square km and it has a population of just over 3.3 million people. Uruguay's GDP is approximately 50 billion US dollars.
