Wreck disposal
Wreck disposal
The WRC 2007 has a special definition of wreck “removal” that goes beyond mere physical removal,1 but in a practical sense after wreck raising and wreck removal comes wreck disposal. The WRC does not itself specify any steps that need to be adopted to ensure the safe disposal of a recovered wreck.2 There are three main areas of disposal to consider: (i) dumping of ships at sea; (ii) scrapping and recycling of ships; and (iii) waste disposal more generally (including cargo disposal).
