Delivery of the goods under bills of lading
8.1 Delivery of the goods – generally1
Delivery of the goods to the consignee is the act by which the carrier performs his last obligation under the contract of carriage. Delivery of goods should be distinguished from discharge.2 While discharge is the material act of moving the goods from the ship ashore, delivery is a legal act having as its effect the transfer of possession to the consignee.3
